(PTI): In the first appearance of a French president in parliament in 136 year, Nicholas Sarkozy says women wearing ‘burqa’ have no place in France.
Sarkozy on Monday addressed parliament on various issues including the controversial subject of ‘burqa’, which has sparked many campaigns and protests across France.
The French president voiced support for the parliament’s ‘burqa’ proposal, saying they were “a sign of the subjugation of women”.
“The issue of the burqa is not a religious issue, it is a question of freedom and of women’s dignity,” he said in his speech.
Last week around 60 cross-party lawmakers backed a proposal to look into the growing ‘burqa’ trend in France.
More than 900 legislators from both houses of parliament - the National Assembly and the Senate - attended Sarkozy’s speech at the Versailles Palace.

Act of Mr.Sarkozy has proven that he himself is a short sighted personality with a lake of vision and wisdom.No one is forcing women to wear Hijab or Burqa then why women are adpting this trend?very simple and logical answer….it is the sign of modesty and respect that Allah has given women so that they could be protected from the brutal and shamless society.Let me make it very clear.. the more any act is suppressed..strongly and widely it will be spread.Take the example of 9/11.Islam has spread widely after this incidence because it is the reality and is the religion for all mankind not exclusively for Muslims.If muslims are not the good practitioners of Islam it’s not the drawback of religion”Islam” So do’nt look at muslims..consult Quran the holy book then you will discover the reason of your existance..Allah Bless u all..
if muslim women can not wear burka then what about nuns dress its also similler to burka
Sarkozy’s himself is shamless and he think that all muslims and specially muslim women are also like him. But he is forgeting the fact that he cant not press islam with his vulgar acts.
