Brits spend a quarter of a billion hours a year working on holiday

Cape Town to become Etihad’s second destination in South Africa

(TDN): Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, will begin services from its Abu Dhabi home-base to the South African city of Cape Town on 30 September 2009. The new Cape Town flights will operate via Etihad’s current daily, Airbus A330, service to South Africa’s commercial capital Johannesburg.

Wi-Fi while you fly with US Airways

(TDN):  US Airways, is turning aircraft into Wi-Fi ‘hotspots’ by partnering with Aircell to provide Gogo Inflight Internet service beginning in early 2010. Full Internet access including Web, Instant Messaging, email and VPN access will be available for purchase to passengers with laptops, smartphones and other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines launch joint flights on routes to Africa

(TDN):  Lufthansa and Brussels are now offering codeshare flights on selected long-haul routes as part of their agreement to expand their cooperation and open up their networks to each other’s passengers. The first jointly operated long-haul services are Brussels Airlines flights from Brussels to Entebbe.

Flights on both theses routes can be booked with immediate effect under the partner’s flight number. Lufthansa passengers can thus fly to Entebbe via Brussels under a Lufthansa (more…)

Advertising Standards Authority bans Israeli tourism posters

(TDN):  A tourism campaign depicting the areas of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Golan Heights as part of Israel has been banned by the advertising watchdog following hundreds of complaints.

The poster campaign, run by the Israeli Government Tourist Office, ran with the headline “experience Israel” with a picture of a boy snorkelling with dolphins. The ad featured a map of Israel that included the West Bank, Gaza Strip (more…)
